The Wessel & Vett Cup in Copenhagen is a Metre Class regatta for 12m boats, to which the 5.5's had been invited this year by Patrick Howaldt. We were given the chance to test the Oeresund waters, in view of next years' 5.5m World Championship, hosted by the Royal Danish Yacht Club (KDY).
The early September weekend has been a sincere pleasure, covering a festive opening dinner, demanding race conditions on Oeresund, a unique dinner party at Christiania in Central Copenhagen, tough racing again with wind well above 20 knots and another Downtown Copenhagen night-out, including dance. On top, breakfast for all plus lunch packages and an after sail pier meeting with grill & beverages.
For those who wished to be racing in a top location with exclusive treatment plus top level racing and you were not there - you have missed something very special. But, you will have the chance to experience KDY at Tuborg Havn in Copenhagen next year, in the Wessel & Vett Cup regatta, followed by the World Championship at the end of August 2016.
A bit of insight into the event:
As Oeresund is having both wind and current for considering navigational tactics, here is a link to a Danish site, offering planning assistance:
Participating 5.5's this year have been a Modern boat from Denmark and several boats from Germany. Best boat overall with a straight line of 1st places has been 5.5 DEN 17 "Arnold", with Mikael, Rasmus and Bo aboard. Bo Selko, well known Dragon sailor, has been helming "Arnold" and confirmed interest to keep on racing 5.5's, thus preparing for the World's. Best Evolution boat was GER 37 and best Classic GER 33.
A big THANK YOU for a very enjoyable weekend to Patrick, the Sponsor Wessel & Vett and KDY!
