Dutch championship 31 August - 2 September 2001 - Muiden (by Linda Rijkuiter)

Close to match-racing and return of the "Topaze"

"We sailed 2 race on friday with lights winds. On the second race it was very shifty and the committee couldn't set a correct course. Saturday we sailed three race with lots of wind (18-22) knots. On sunday we did one more to end-up the championship, there was also about 20 knots of wind. Hans Peter (Pungin) and Hans Nadorp (Maitresse) where kind of match-racing all the time. They now have enough practice for the next 10 goldcup finals !

It was great to have Topaze NED-12 back on the water. In spite of being out of training they were very hard to beat. Joost had his first real racing with his new boat (ex-Salamander GBR-38) and sailed with his son Willem and daughter Raia. It was kind of a family competition between Hamerhaai NED-38 and the Topaze Ned-12 with a full ladies crew of the sisters Marjan Timmers( and wife and mother in the crewof the Hamerhaai ), Ans Roth van Opzeeland and Conny van opzeeland. They beat Joost and where first of the Classic leaving one modern and all the evolution behind them. The rest of the field was real close all the time and finished within second of each other. "
